ESPN3 and ESPN 3D to televise more than 30 hours of live youth and amateur sports events from the sports complex at Walt Disney World Resort; MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship, Old Spice Classic, Boys and Girls Soccer and Youth Softball gain national spotlight
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2011) — Several youth and amateur sports events at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex are being televised live nationally on ESPN3 and ESPN 3D throughout this month.
The ESPN networks will air more than 30 hours of live sports programming from the complex at Walt Disney World Resort during November, including events such as the Old Spice Classic, the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship and youth soccer and softball tournaments.
The Old Spice Classic, a premiere pre-season Division I men’s basketball tournament during Thanksgiving Weekend, will be televised on ESPN 3D for the second straight year. All 12 games from the tournament, which features Arizona State, Dayton, DePaul, Fairfield, Indiana State, Minnesota, Texas Tech and Wake Forest, will air live Nov. 24 – 27 from HP Field House.
ESPN3 will televise more than 22 hours of programming from the sports complex at Disney covering collegiate and youth soccer, as well as high school softball. ESPN3 will show the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship Friday, Sunday and Monday, including No. 2 Iona College against No. 10 Siena College (11:15 a.m. ET) and top-ranked Fairfield University versus Rider University (1:45 p.m. ET) on Friday. ESPN3′s coverage will continue with the conference championship semifinals Sunday and title game on Monday. The MAAC conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.
ESPN3 will also air three games this Saturday from the Diamond9 Sun Classic, which features some of the top prep softball players in the nation. Coverage ranges from 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.
And ESPN3 will show the boys and girls finals of Disney’s Junior Soccer Showcase on Nov. 27 from 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. ET. The Thanksgiving weekend tournament involves highly-regarded 11 through 14 year-old youth soccer players from around the country.
The ESPN 3D telecasts are possible because ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is the official development hub for ESPN’s 3D technology. The sports complex is also home to the ESPN Innovation Lab and the ESPN Production Center.
