Disney Pro Soccer Classic: Two MLS Teams Remain Undefeated

Columbus Crew and Montreal Impact are unbeaten after second day of group play at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Columbus Crew and the Montreal Impact remain undefeated after two days of group play in Disney’s Pro Soccer Classic.

The Crew rolled past the Philadelphia Union 4-0 on Wednesday at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. And the Impact won their second game with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Marco Di Vaioscored two first-half goals and Felipe Martins added one to put the match away early. The NASL champion Rowdies’ only goal came from a penalty kick in the 38th minute.  

In other matches Wednesday, Sporting Kansas City’s Bobby Convey scored the matches’ first goal in the 74th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead over D.C. United. Seven minutes later Soony Saad easily delivered the team’s second goal to defeat D.C. United 2-0.

The Toronto FC – Orlando City match was scoreless until the 53rd minute when supplemental draft pick Taylor Morgan put Toronto on the board with a dazzling goal for a 1-0 lead. Toronto FC added two more goals later in the second half for a 3-0 shutout of Orlando City.

Disney’s Pro Soccer Classic resumes Saturday with four more games starting at 1 pm at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World following by the final round of matches on Saturday Feb. 23.

The field includes six Major League Soccer clubs – D.C. United, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas City, Columbus Crew, Toronto FC and Montreal Impact – along with the United Soccer Leagues’ Orlando City Soccer and the North American Soccer League’s Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Toronto FC will be playing for the fourth straight year at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which is the team’s official pre-season home. They’ve team has train at the facility the past two weeks leading up to their first match.

Single session tickets for the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic, which include entry into two games, are on sale for $20 through all Ticketmaster outlets and at the sports complex box office or by calling 407-949-GAME (4263). All-tournament passes are $99.

The Disney Pro Soccer Classic is just one of more than a dozen prestigious soccer events held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which is the leading multi-sports venue in the nation and the official preseason training home of the AS Roma Football Club. Among the most high-profile soccer events at ESPN Wide World of Sports are Disney’s Soccer Showcase, the Disney Cup International and the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championships.
