Disney victory earns Weston FC spot at world’s biggest 12-under youth soccer tournament in October; Weston FC to take on elite youth teams from 32 participating countries in Morocco

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (May 26, 2015) – An elite South Florida youth soccer club earned a spot in the world’s largest soccer tournament for U12 athletes, the DANONE Nations Cup. Weston FC defeated the Chicago Magic 6-1 in the qualifier championship game this weekend as part of the Disney Memorial Day Soccer Shootout presented by Danimals at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

Weston FC beat out 22 highly-regarded teams competing in the U.S. qualifier, which was held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the sixth consecutive season. As tournament champions, the Weston FC club receives an all expenses paid trip to compete against teams from 32 countries around the world in Morocco this October. Over 34,000 schools and 11,000 clubs from around the world compete every year for an opportunity to play in the DANONE Nations Cup and only 32 clubs in the world get to live that dream.

It took quite a feat for Weston FC to qualify for the trip to Morocco. The team first had to conquer the field at the Disney Memorial Day Soccer Shootout, the largest three-day soccer tournament held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The event attracts more than 600 teams to Disney during Memorial Day Weekend.

In addition to the Disney Memorial Day Soccer Shootout, Disney Sports has hosted an array of youth and pro soccer events at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex over the years, including four events in the Disney Soccer Showcase series, six Disney Soccer tournaments throughout the year, the Disney Soccer Academy in June and July, and the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic.
