Retired MLB manager making his youth baseball coaching debut with U16 team at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

The X-Fury U16 baseball team from Connecticut, coached by former New York Mets player and manager Bobby Valentine, participated in the Disney International Salute to Baseball at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, winning the championship in the first week of the two-week tournament. X-Fury beat the Middletown Knights (Maryland), 9-1.

The famed former Major League Baseball manager has run various baseball academies for many years, but this marks his first year coaching a youth team.

His squad featured athletes from various Connecticut high school conference and state championship teams who are drawing interest from college scouts.

X-Fury is one of more than 100 teams participating in the Disney International Salute to Baseball tournament, an annual youth baseball event held over two weeks at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, June 26-July 9.
