Walt Disney World Golf Rebuilds and Enhances Mickey Mouse Bunker

Filed in: Recreation

In late August 2017, the team at Arnold Palmer Golf Management, which manages the four Walt Disney World Resort golf courses, updated and enhanced the Mickey Mouse bunker on the par-3, 6th hole at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.

Over the years, the bunker has experienced periodic rebuilds, the most recent being in 2013. Climate and soil conditions can compromise the longevity of a bunker and result in loss of shape and sinking sand due to erosion. Which is why this year, the course has invested in a new construction method which will protect the famous bunker over the coming years.

In an effort to preserve its unique shape, the team used Capillary Concrete, which makes the sand conditions ideal for play, while also improving the lifespan of the bunker.

Disney Golf also has plans to add Mickey-shaped bunkers to the other three Walt Disney World Resort golf courses – hole No. 8 on Disney’s Palm, No. 12 on Lake Buena Vista and No. 9 on Oak Trail sometime next summer.
