Both Central Florida teams contend for spots in their division’s National Championship in nation’s largest youth football event at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
The Ocoee Bulldogs and the St. Petersburg Silver Raiders are competing in their respective Pop Warner Super Bowl semifinal games this week. The Bulldogs (Unlimited division) face the Calumet City Thunderbolts (Illinois) and the Silver Raiders (Jr. Midget division) square off against the Deer Valley Crusaders (Arizona), with the winners advancing to National Championship games Dec. 11 and 12. The Silver Raiders play their semifinal game on Tuesday (Dec. 8) at 1:15 pm on Field 17, and the Bulldogs, on Wednesday (Dec. 9) at 11 am.
On Saturday, the Ocoee Bulldogs defeated the Palm Bay Rockets, 15-12, while the St. Pete Silver Raiders bested the Brick City Lions (New Jersey), 20-7. National champions will be crowned in five divisions based on age and weight – Jr. Pee Wee (ages 8–11), Pee Wee (ages 9–12), Jr. Midget (ages 10–13), Midget (ages 11–15) and Unlimited (11–15, 105-lb. minimum).
More than 70 percent of active NFL players got their starts competing on Pop Warner teams across the country, including currents stars such as five-time league MVP Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos), 2015 Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman (New England Patriots), eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals) and 2012 NFC champion Colin Kaepernick (San Francisco 49ers).
