Nearly 6,000 Youth Athletes Competed at Disney Over Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend is the unofficial end to summer, but at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort, things were just heating up as one of the busiest weekends in youth sports took place over the long weekend. With many of the nation’s school children preparing to head back to the classroom soon, some 5,594 athletes competed in various events at the complex at Disney. More than 300 teams involved in football, volleyball and field hockey hit the fields for the KSA Events Labor Day Volleyball, KSA Events Football Game of the Week, the Disney Labor Day Baseball Classic and the Disney Soccer Showcase Qualifier presented by AS Roma.

In the most competitive event, 228 soccer teams competed in the Disney Soccer Showcase Qualifier. This event is the precursor to the heralded Disney Soccer Showcase, one of the premier high school soccer recruiting events in the nation. Champions from the weekend earned automatic selection into the Disney Girls Soccer Showcase in November and the Disney Boys Soccer Showcase in December.

Also, the complex hosted 38 baseball teams in the Disney Labor Day Baseball Classic. The event gave athletes one last chance to play with their 2017 summer team. This year, the event welcomed 23 teams from Florida and 15 teams from Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, New York, Illinois, Connecticut, Virginia and the US Virgin Islands combined.

As the transition to fall sports gets underway, football, field hockey and volleyball teams kicked off their seasons in various KSA events at the complex including KSA Events Labor Day Volleyball and KSA Events Football Game of the Week.
