2021-2022 Disney Soccer Season will include New Disney Cup Soccer Series and Return of Popular Disney Soccer Showcases
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (June 4, 2021) – With safety at the forefront of planning, Disney youth soccer will resume at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex starting this fall, the latest in a string of youth sports events returning to the popular sports complex at Walt Disney World Resort.
The 2021-2022 Disney youth soccer season starts with the launch of the new Disney Cup Soccer Series, a collection of three tournaments where teams in various age divisions earn points based on their performance, with at least four of the highest scoring teams in each age group advancing to a single-elimination round on the second and third days of the Disney Memorial Day Soccer Tournament, May 28-30, 2022. Teams can choose to play in one or all three events in the series with the winning teams taking home championship trophies and medals.
Disney Cup Soccer Series
The three tournaments in the new Disney Cup Soccer Series are:
- Disney Labor Day Soccer Tournament: Sept. 4 – Sept. 6, 2021
- Disney President’s Day Soccer Tournament: Feb. 19 – Feb. 21, 2022
- Disney Memorial Day Soccer Tournament: May 28 – May 30, 2022
Perhaps the most anticipated element of youth soccer’s return to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is the resumption of Disney’s coveted Boys and Girls Soccer Showcases. The annual Disney Soccer Showcase events, which feature many of the nation’s most highly ranked youth players in America, are consistently among the leading recruiting events in the country.
Disney Soccer Showcase Events
Disney Soccer Showcase Events will return for the 2021-22 season, giving youth athletes an opportunity to compete in front of college coaches. There will be three Showcase Events, all taking place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex:
- Disney Junior Soccer Showcase (U11-U14): Nov. 26 – Nov. 28, 2021
- Disney Boys Soccer Showcase (U15-U19): Dec 27 – Dec. 31, 2021
- Disney Girls Soccer Showcase (U15 – U19): Jan.15 – Jan. 17, 2022
With the return of the Disney Soccer Showcases, and the introduction of the Disney Cup Soccer Series, ESPN Wide World of Sports continues its long history of offering best-in-class sports and entertainment facilities and service synonymous with Walt Disney World, along with continually updated health and safety measures for athletes, coaches, and spectators.
The slate of soccer events adds to the growing number of sports events – professional, collegiate and youth competitions – taking place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex since Walt Disney World Resort reopened last summer. The sports complex was the epicenter of the return of sports in America last year following the pandemic, starting with the resumption of the 2020 NBA season and the MLS Is Back Tournament. Since then, the sports complex has added youth baseball, field hockey, soccer, cheer and dance competitions, among others, to its 2021 schedule of events.
