High Schools Claim National Cheer Championships at Walt Disney World Resort

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2023) – National championships were handed out in more than 40 divisions at the 2023 UCA National High School Cheerleading Championships at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Feb. 10-12, 2023. 1,125 teams from 33 states competed at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex showcasing their incredible athleticism and abilities in stunting, tumbling, and crowd-leading.

Teams competed in Traditional Routine, Game Day and the newest division at the championship, Game Day Live which was added in 2020 and offers cheer teams the opportunity to perform with their school’s band members taking their traditions from the sidelines to the competition floor.

The National High School Cheerleading Championship was first held in 1980 and has been featured on ESPN since 1983. Walt Disney World Resort has hosted the event since 1995.

Varsity Spirit organizes the event and announces the winners, while also live-streaming the championship on Varsity TV. The championship will air on ESPN2 and ESPNU beginning in the Spring of 2023. Viewers can check their local listings for air times.
